All About Dawn
I love making things, and I’m definitely happiest when I’m creating things with my own two hands. I love having something to show for all my hard work and I never pass up the opportunity to learn how to do something new. My motto has always been, don’t buy it when you can make it!
After studying Art History at the University of California, San Diego, I suppose it’s only natural that I would pursue a graduate degree in Architecture since my dad, who is a contractor, designed and built two of the houses I grew up in. With a Masters of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles I began working at architectural firms in San Diego where the majority of my time was spent creating the drawings and documents that would tell others how to make things (buildings). However, I filled my free time (lunch hours, waiting rooms, TV time on the couch) with my own projects. Sewing, painting, gardening, baking, drawing, knitting, silkscreening and wood working were my safe havens. But it wasn’t until I was home following the birth of my oldest son that I began to conceive of the idea to create unique things to sell. During those first few months in my new role as stay-at-home-mom, I began drawing and painting the whimsical friends that have become the characters of the Buzzing Bog. Inspired by my Hawaiian roots, bibs, pillows and paintings illustrate botanicals …with an element of surprise; namely, the winged and whimsical critters that take flight in my silk screened graphics. Making things is a form of meditation for me. Without all my projects I don’t know how I’d maintain a healthy mind and happy heart.
I married the boy who was my best friend in high school. We continue to live in San Diego county where we were both born and raised. Our busy household is never dull with our two sons, our two cats, five koi fish and a fluffy white dog named Ringo

FAQ
How are payments accepted?
If you click the "buy now" button on the product pages, you will be directed to submit your payment and shipping information through PayPal. If you would like to submit credit card information directly without interfacing with PayPal, you can e-mail me your order and I will send you a bill with a link to a secure site where you can pay your bill online. If you would like to pay with a check, send me an e-mail. I will wait for the check to clear before shipping your order out.
What are your shipping
charges ?
My shipping charges are explained HERE.
When will my order be shipped?
Many of the things (bibs, booties, notecards) you see on my site are custom made. This means, when you order it, I'll make it. That being said, I do often have several of my items (paintings, pillows, mobiles) in stock, so if you're interested in buying something that is ready for immediate shipment, please feel free to e-mail me and inquire. Otherwise, your order should go in the mail 1-2 weeks after you order. In addition to the confirmation you'll get from PayPal upon the completion of your order, you will also receive a message from me indicating exactly when you can expect to see your order. This is largely determined by the number of orders I'm currently working on. If things are slow here, I'll get your order out sooner rather than later, I promise!
I live in San Diego county. Can I pick up my order?
Of course! Send me an e-mail and we'll coordinate.
What is the Buzzing Bog?
It all began with my drawings of these little winged critters. From there I imagined a place by the water where the sound of their furiously flapping wings made the entire place buzz (like busy bees or hummingbirds). So I came up with the name "Buzzing Bog". Yes, I'd like a story to develop one of these days. It's one of those projects on my increasingly growing list.
Do you accept custom orders?
I'm happy to work with you to create something unique and/or personalized. Send me an e-mail and we can coordinate.
Do you have monkeys/hippos/puppies ?
It's hard to draw the line - but I did. However, if I have the time I'd be happy to custom create something for you.
Do you accept wholesale orders?
Yes, if I can fulfill your order, I'll take it. Find more information HERE.
Can I sign your mailing list ?
Yes! There is a place for you to send me your e-mail address on the home page.
